A Week of World-Class Polo, Learning and Competition in Sotogrande
Polo Valley successfully hosted another outstanding edition of the Players Cup 2026, welcoming players from around the world to Iron Bridge, located within the historic Santa María Polo Club grounds in Sotogrande.
Designed for players looking to elevate their game, the Players Cup combines professional coaching, competitive polo, and an immersive training experience in one of Europe’s most prestigious polo destinations. This year’s edition was made even more special with the participation of Argentine professional Tincho Merlos, who joined the programme as the resident professional player and mentor throughout the week.

Learning from One of Argentina’s Finest
Recognised for his talent, horsemanship, and experience at the highest level of the sport, Tincho Merlos worked closely with participants throughout a full day, sharing his knowledge both on and off the field.
He still holds the record for scoring the highest number of goals in a single match at the Argentine Open in Palermo, one of the most prestigious achievements in the sport.
Players had the opportunity to improve every aspect of their game through personalised coaching sessions, tactical workshops, stick & ball practice, and competitive chukkas, benefiting from daily interaction with one of Argentina’s most respected professionals.
For many participants, the opportunity to train alongside Tincho was one of the highlights of the entire week, providing invaluable insight into the technical, tactical, and mental aspects of high-level polo.
They culminated the day by playing a practice alongside Tincho Merlos and Santiago Cernadas.

The Players Cup has become one of Polo Valley’s signature programmes, designed for intermediate and advanced players seeking intensive coaching while enjoying the unique lifestyle of Sotogrande.
Throughout the week, participants experience a carefully structured programme including:
- Daily polo coaching with professional players
- Stick & ball sessions
- Tactical workshops
- Practice chukkas
- Competitive tournament matches

The programme combines technical progression with the relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle that has made Sotogrande one of the world’s leading polo destinations.
